K.Ji is on a mission to put his city and his culture on the map.
Born and raised in Nottingham with family roots in Punjab, he’s a UK rapper pushing British Asian representation in a space where it’s long been overlooked.
From 14 to 18, he was sharpening his pen and embracing the underground sounds of Nottingham and UK Grime. It was in Birmingham, during university, that he properly reconnected with his culture. That shift changed everything. What started as straight UK rap evolved into a signature blend of hard rap and Punjabi samples turning into a reflection of both sides of his world.
The milestones followed. K.Ji became the first solo rapper and artist of Punjabi heritage to win Future of Nottingham at the iconic Rock City, and later the first in his lane to perform on the Main Stage at Nottingham’s Splendour Festival, opening for Noel Gallagher, Rudimental and The Sugababes. Support from BBC Introducing and BBC Asian Network helped amplify the movement.
Now 25, he’s left his job to go all in. In a culture that often boxes artists into one side or the other, K.Ji is building a bridge. Connecting UK rap and Punjabi sound with purpose. His music represents the British Asian experience, while speaking to anyone navigating dual identity and belonging.
This isn’t just about making noise. It’s about putting K.Ji and the next generation who see themselves in him, on the map.
