Saturday 18th July marks the return of Smoove & Turrell to The Bodega! A full band affair, we can’t wait
Hello! Thanks for joining us for a chat. Could ya let us know who you are and what relevance you have to Smoove & Turrell?
Smoove! I’m the producer and manager of the band Smoove & Turrell. I also play percussion in the live aspect.
You’re coming our way this month, succeeded by a long string of dates across the country. Anywhere in particular you’re excited to revisit or anywhere you’ve never gigged before that you’re looking forward to visiting?
It’s festival season, so we have a few of those to attend, which is always chaotic and challenging to say the least.
In early 2026, we toured in the Netherlands – which was amazing! We are thrilled now to be playing the ‘Singles’ tour which is taking us all over the U.K. We last played Bodega in Nottingham in 2023 as part of the ‘Red Ellen’ tour which was really successful so we are really looking forward to returning soon.
Sometimes you perform as a duo, sometimes with a full band. Which do you prefer, and what can we expect from your upcoming show at our place?
They are both a lot of fun. Fundamentally, I’m a DJ at heart, so I really enjoy the duo set up which is open format, whereas the full live band is set as a score but the musicianship comes to life! There is one song called ‘Geno’s Discotheque’ where our guitarist gets an incredible amount of space to show off his talent (this is my favourite part of the show).
It’s been a while since you released anything with a tracklist. Can you tease any plans for us regarding this? Do you prefer to play live?
There was a lot of singles to pick from and we couldn’t play them all but there is few favourites like ‘Beggarman’, ‘Slow Down’, ‘You’re Gone’, ‘Will You Be Mine’ and our version of ‘I’m A Man’. We have also added a brand new exclusive song (not released yet) called “Only You’.
Very exciting stuff! And finally, if you were cast away to a desert island tomorrow and you were allowed an unlimited supply of crisps but only of one flavour, what flavour would you pick?
Worcestershire sauce!
