Folk legends The Deadlians sail through Bodega in March. We were desperate to catch up with them…
Hey Deadlians! Thanks for joining us for a chat. Could you please tell readers who we’re talking and your role in the band?
Hello, you’re talking to each and every Deadlian; Sean, Tommy, Barry, Luke and Eoin. Vocals/fiddle, guitar, drums, keys and bass respectively.
Good to meet you guys! So you’re heading back out on the road, including a stop off at Bodega on 10th March! Anywhere in particular you’re excited to revisit or anywhere you’ve never gigged before that you’re looking forward to visiting?
The Bodega, of course! We’ve never been to Nottingham but we hear you have form in trying to ‘Rid The Land Of Greedy Toads’ with Robin Hood and the lads. We’re also really looking forward to getting back to Stroud, idyllic place and The Prince Albert is a lovely gaff run by lovely people.
You guys are going 10 years strong (if my research has served me well) now. As you look back across that time, what would you say are your proudest moments?
10 years seems unlikely as we are all 21 years old but we suppose that’s possible, give or take a few years. The first Deadlians single was released in 2017, the current line up has been playing together since 2019. As for proudest moments certainly supporting The Pogues in Hackney Empire is up there, also playing Paradiso in Amsterdam after a UK tour in a Citroen Picasso was fantastic.
Once you’ve finished your tour, what next? Are you treating fans to festival appearances over the summer? Perhaps any music releases that you may be able to tease for us?
In the summer, we’ll be recording for our next album. We like to record in summer when we’re most happy and healthy boys. We’ll surely be popping over to yous over the summer for some dates as well.
If you were cast away to a desert island tomorrow and you were allowed an unlimited supply of ice cream but only of one flavour, what flavour would you pick?
This is a tough one. Much internal debate. This could break us… We refuse to answer. We reject your question, we choose harmony.
Whatever you say, guys. The Deadlians join us here at Bodega on Tuesday 10th March. Tickets are still up for grabs here.
