Meet ‘Em – Night Swimming

Dreamy pentet Night Swimming are back at Bodega! We met ’em once before in anticipation to their show with us on the downstairs stage. We thought we’d complete the set (now they’re in our main venue), and meet ’em again…

Hey Night Swimming! Thanks for joining us for another interview. We are so glad you’re coming back to us on your upcoming tour after your appearance on our downstairs stage last year. First of all, what memories do you have of that? We have great ones!

Hey! Thank you for having us. Last time was a really exciting show for us as it was our first time playing in Nottingham. Meg lived in Nottingham for a few years and was very happy to be back. We’re staying overnight this time – maybe we’ll get to experience the Notts nightlife we’ve heard so much about.

You’d just released your EP, No Place To Land, when you came to us last time. You’ve been busy since! Congratulations of the three singles you’ve released this year so far. How do you see these singles in comparison to your older material. Do you have any comments on how your music has moved on?

The three singles we released this year (prior to Submarine) were written pretty soon after we recorded No Place To Land, and feel like they live in the same world. Subsequently, our writing began moving naturally in a darker direction. We knew that we wanted our sound to evolve and thought carefully about how we could take our production further without compromising a ‘live’ feel. Drum production was a big focus point in the recording sessions as we leant further into our Trip Hop influences.

Forgive me for saying so, but you’re teasing us! Might anything with a tracklist transpire from these singles being released? Anything exclusives you can spoil us to?

We don’t have anything that we want to announce just yet, but anyone who’s been to a show this year may be aware that we’ve been playing a lot of new, unreleased material. We’ve always been a band to test new songs in a live setting.

The last time we chatted, you said that you describe your music as “dream pop with subtle shoegaze and trip-hop influences”. I wonder if you can all agree on a favourite band or do you all have different influences that are all over the place?

We definitely couldn’t agree on a favourite band, although we have a lot of crossover and collectively enjoy bands such as Cocteau Twins, Wolf Alice and Daughter. We like to think that we all contribute different musical influences to our parts.

As a band, what’s been your highlight of 2025 so far? Somehow, it’s nearly over already!

We enjoyed the Left of the Dial Festival in Rotterdam – especially getting to play three sets in a variety of venues that were really cool and different for us. We’ll definitely be coming back to the Netherlands soon!

What’s your dream rider? Go wild. No budget!

A Guinness draught tap on wheels, a 4 litre bucket of Ramona’s houmous, 3 bags of Manchego and Green Olive Manomasa tortilla chips, a Tupperware box of assorted nuts and a Christmas size bucket of Twiglets for Meg.

We’ll see what we can do! Thanks for chatting with us, guys. Night Swimming are with us this Thursday (13th November). You can still snap up a ticket here.
