Meet ‘Em – Afflecks Palace

Manchester lads Afflecks Palace are bringing the noise to The Bodega on the 18th May, so we got to know ’em!

Hey Afflecks! Where are we reaching you today? Set the scene for us.

We are currently deep in rehearsals for our UK tour. Busy deciding on set lists, what guitars to use, who is singing what parts and also discussing the meaning of life. I think we’ve figured it out.

This isn’t your first rodeo. Any memories from playing Notts over the years?

Yeah loads, we love playing in Nottingham! So many great venues. We previously played Bodega and sold it out, Rescues Rooms was immense when we played there and Rock City supporting Razorlight was a highlight. Proper bucket list venue is that! We played at Splendour Festival in 2023, watched Confidence Man play from the side of the stage and were blown away by how good they were live. We hung out with them after, a lovely bunch of people to boot.

You’ve just released your new single ‘You Are The Answer’, how has the reaction been so far?

Reaction so far has been great. I genuinely don’t think I’ve heard or read anything negative about it, which is amazing. It’s gonna go off when we play it on tour that’s for sure.

You’ve been busy working away on your third album, how has that process been and has your approach in the studio evolved over the records?

It is all coming together, the singles we have lined up (of which ‘You Are The Answer’ is the first) we think are our strongest to date! It’s a little left field of what we’ve released so far, something a bit different to our previous output but not so drastic a change. Evolution, not stagnation creatively.

The scene in Manchester has always been a real hub for rising bands. How has the city influenced you and any favourite venues to check out?

I think any UK band would be hard pressed to say that they haven’t been influenced by the music that has come out of Manchester over the last 40 – 50 years. The Stone Roses, Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division, Everything Everything… They all make the list. I’m especially fond of the Apollo, I have seen some amazing gigs there. Fingers crossed we get to play there one day.

Just before we say goodbye, any wild pre-show rituals we should be prepping the venue for?

Nothing too unusual, but as per our emails please make sure the rider has that muzzle we requested. The drummer bites.

Afflecks Palace join us on the 18th May. Tickets on sale now.
