Pale Blue Eyes are a young electro-modernist guitar group based in Devon in Britain’s southwest. Their horizon-wide pop and compelling rhythms build on the great German kosmische Musik and on alt-rock sounds at their most artful. Debut album Souvenirs was released on Full Time Hobby in 2022 – and was greeted with much acclaim.

Clash: “Masterful… gorgeous… heart-warming optimism.”
Uncut: “Joyous… propulsive… exhilarating.”
Line Of Best Fit: “‘Like all great debuts, both a culmination of their beginnings as well as a
pointer to the wide-open road ahead. ”

PBE have become playlist regulars on BBC 6 Music, with singles TV Flicker, Globe and Little Gem all featuring. The trio are now looking forward to a busy touring schedule in 2023. They have recently supported bands including Public Service Broadcasting, Sea Power, W.H. Lung, International Teachers of Pop, Penelope Isles and Drahla – and have appeared at festivals including Sea Change, Krankenhaus, Sŵn, Mutations and Supersonic in Paris.

In the years leading up to their debut album, the band members worked all kinds of jobs to finance the construction of their own rural recording studio – Penquit Mill, set amid the greenery to the south of Dartmoor. The debut album was mixed and mastered by the great
Dean Honer (The Moonlandingz, Róisín Murphy, I Monster, Human League,). Dean’s album mix hints at PBE’s deep pop perspective. Drummer Lucy grew up in Sheffield and had formative musical experiences playing music in and around that city. Underlining Lucy’s
loyalty to the Steel City, her college dissertation was titled An Investigation Into Sheffield’s Alternative Music Scene Between 1973 And 1978, With Particular Reference To Cabaret Voltaire. The dissertation was completed while Lucy was at Dartington College of Arts in Devon. Lucy met Matt there and the pair have been making music together ever since. The PBE line-up was completed when Motown-mad Aubrey beamed in on Fender bass, fresh from a photography degree.

PBE’s first ever release was the double A-side single Motionless/Chelsea in 2021, the first output on their own Broadcast Recordings label. PBE are very much a self-governing, DIY kind of band. The debut single was backed by the kind of sponsors you don’t often find in
rock – the enlightened Devon businesses New Lion Brewery, Gro Cycle mushrooms and the Green Funeral Company.

From these resourceful beginnings, the band have moved ever onward. They are now working on tracks for their second album.
