Meet ‘Em – Stan Buckroyd

Blending sun-soaked indie riffs and raspy vocals, Stan Buckroyd is heading home for a local show at our gaff this December. Let’s meet him…

Hey Stan! We’re really looking forward to welcoming you back to The Bodega, how are you feeling ahead of the show?

I’m getting really excited for this gig! Always been a dream to headline The Bodega and can’t believe it’s finally becoming a reality. It’s going to be such a nice feeling playing to a home crowd as well – I’m based in Manchester these days, but Notts will always be my city.

This isn’t the first time you’ve taken the stage at our place, what do you remember of the past gigs here and are you looking forward to coming back?

Yeah I got to support The Headspace there at their final gig as a band in January 2022. It was such a lovely vibe and was still the best gig I’ve played. Can’t wait to do it again but to headline the venue this time round!

2022 has been a busy year for you in terms of recording and gigging, how has the reaction been to the latest singles and shows?

My recent single GREY has been getting such a great response, and it’s definitely the best track I’ve made yet. I’m also releasing my final track of 2022 on the night of the gig (from my EP ‘Baby Steps’), so the 16th is going to be a big day in many ways!

Talking of releases is there anything new on the horizon we can look forward to in the new year?

In the new year I’m going to start recording my next EP. It’s going to be bigger and better than anything I’ve made before and I already can’t wait to release it. I’m also planning a UK tour for next year, so definitely got a lot going on…

You recently recorded with BBC Introducing, what was it like doing a gig with them?

It’s always great to work with BBC Introducing, and of course the man himself Dean Jackson. It was a great gig to play with a really lovely crowd. Had such a good time on stage – and it only made me more excited for my gig at Bodega.

Nottingham is a really creative space at the moment with a lot of new bands coming through, what do you make of the scene at the moment and are there any artists we should be checking out?

Notts has always been such a great city for new music, and it’s still definitely the case. If people want bands to look out for, I’d of course say check out the 2 great supports I’ve got on the night, Grain and Heart Sauce. But I have to shoutout the boys, Left Hand Lane too – definitely keep your eyes peeled for what they’ve got planned for next year.

Lastly are there any bizarre pre show rituals we should be preparing the venue for?

I’m pretty vanilla when it comes to pre-show rituals. Apart from the standard sacrifice and blood-drinking of a Lebanese mountain goat, I like to keep it pretty chill. Just a few drinks and a natter with my band, so nothing too bizarre really 🙂

Stan Buckroyd plays The Bodega on Friday 16th December 2022. Tickets are on sale here.
