Meet ‘Em – Panic Shack

Armed with witty lyrics and killer hooks, rising Welsh punk quintet Panic Shack are the band you need in your ears in 2023. After storming through a Summer of festivals, a debut headline tour is on the horizon for the new year where they’ll handily stop off in Notts. We meet ’em below…

Evening Panic Shack! Really looking forward to welcoming you back to The Bodega, how are you feeling ahead of the tour?

We’re absolutley fucking buzzing for it! There’s nothing we love more than being with each other 24/7 and playing gigs so yeah, CANT WAIT!

This isn’t your first time playing The Bodega, we saw you earlier this year with Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard. How was the show last time out and are you looking forward to taking the stage here again?

We’ve played The Bodega twice now and both times the vibes have been superb. We always have a great crowd and always drink too many pints after the show so that’s a win-win right? Our Meg also went to Nottingham Uni so she takes us to all the cool spots. Definitely one of our fave venues to play for sure!

Your latest release is a spin on Metronomy’s track ‘It’s Good To Be Back’. How did that come about and what was it like putting a punk spin on such a synth heavy track?

You know what, I’m not entirely sure how we managed to bag that but they just reached out to us cause they like us apparently? Wild that ini. As for the track we didn’t intentionally set out to make it punk per say, but everything ends up going 100mph with us and we’ve only got guitars so there we ‘av it.

You’ve had a jam packed summer over festival season, what was it like playing Reading & Leeds and how do you feel those experiences translate into the headline shows?

Playing Reading and Leeds was a slightly different one, ’cause we knew bits of it were being recorded for the BBC, I was just kind of concentrating on not fucking up lol, but festivals in general are soooo fun. Completely different from playing a venue because a lot of the people there are just passing by probably making their way to watch a different artist so it almost feels like you have to try a bit harder? I feel like as a band we thrive in the dirty, dingy, sweaty venues but we love both.

As a Cardiff based band what can you say about the music scene there and do you have any recommendations for us to wrap our ears around?

Cardiff’s music scene is really tight and supportive, we’re pretty much bezzie mates with most the other bands tbh. Some of the band you should DEFINITELY check out are CVC, Shlug, Minas, Show Dogs and The Family Battenburg.

2022 seems to have been a really busy year for the band, what can we expect to hear from Panic Shack in 2023?

In 2023 we aim to be the first band to perform a gig whilst simultaneously skydiving. Just trying to find some lighter amps!

Rock on. Lastly after the release of your track ‘Meal Deal’, it’s only right that we ask… go-to meal deal combo?

Ok ok ok here we go (we take this very seriously btw). Em’s is egg and avocado sandwich (from Boots), thai sweet chilli chicken McCoys and an oat latte.

Romi’s is an egg and cress sandwich, grab bag of Skips and a cherry Capri Sun.

Megs is a tuna mayo, Twix xtra and a San Pelly sparkling water (crazy) and I can’t get hold of Sarah right now but if I had to pick her out a meal deal in a shop right now I’d get her a vegan New Yorker sarnie, Walkers max paprika ridge crisps and a Red Bull (not that she needs it).

Please get in touch and let us know what u think of our meal deals luv ya xxx

Panic Shack play The Bodega on 26th February. Last few tickets available here.
