Meet ‘Em – The Rolling People

The latest band to emerge out of Stockport, young razor-sharp indie quartet The Rolling People head upstairs for the first time on 4th April, so we got to know ’em!

Hi guys, welcome to The Bodega! Really excited to have you here, how are you feeling about the string of headline shows you’ve got lined up?

It’s always great playing in London and Glasgow but it’s a bit more special coming to Nottingham for the first time – it’s such a great city with so much diversity, culture and sport. We’re excited to see what’s in store!

You kicked off the year with your latest single ‘I’ll Be There’, what can you tell us about the writing and recording process for this track?

Well this track started from just a bassline we were playing about with whilst rehearsing and then on the spot we added melody, drums and guitar parts.

Can we expect to see any more releases over the next year?

We’ve got a couple of singles coming, and an EP out in May – which we’ve been looking forward to releasing for some time. We just can’t wait to hear what the fans think of it, we’ve tried to really work on creating a richer sound, diving further into our influences and trying to recreate the live energy that we thrive off when we’re on stage.

As a young band from Stockport what can you tell us about the music scene around where you grew up? Are there any notable venues or people that helped shape the sound you’ve created?

It’s a bit underappreciated I think, we’ve had some iconic bands come to places like Strawberry Studios, and of course there’s Blossoms and Inspiral Carpets who are not just local but national heroes, and with The Plaza just around the corner, it’s always been a dream to eventually play there.

You recently hit the capital for the first time, what can you tell us about your first show in London?

It was definitely one to remember. A sell-out outside of our hometown means a lot and for our first headline show in London we couldn’t have asked for more!

Lastly, are there any pre-show rituals we should be preparing ourselves for? Have a great show, we’ll see you soon!

We have a very strict down-in-one rule before a show. It helps us loosen up a bit which is about as superstitious as we get.

Catch The Rolling People at The Bodega on the 4th April. Tickets on sale now.
