THE SWIINES

The music industry is a fickle beast, one minute you are riding the crest of a wave, the next, you’re music is out of fashion! Not so with Nottingham band, The Swiines.

Yet to infiltrate mainstream consciousness, they continue to be considered as one of the most consistent local bands around. In a relatively short life span of 18 months – give or take a month – they have released two EP’s, launched a club night and supported some illustrious rock luminaries. And with the genesis of a new decade they are ready to re-style rock music.

It has been a turbulent ride for the rock foursome, three of whom – lead vocals Scott Bugg, guitar Adi Young and drums Daniel Taylor – have been there from the start, with changes in management and fallouts rife.

Yet despite the strife their music hasn’t suffered. From first coming together from the ashes of two popular Notts bands they have grown in maturity.

A fresh rock swagger to their sound characterised the early days and, although these influences remain, they have evolved, producing more lyrically charged Brit-rock melodies with the occasional explosive chorus.

If one song sums up their brash hedonistic early days it has to be My Plasticine Bowl. It remains a popular choice amongst their followers, who have seen them share stage time with The Subways, The Rifles and invited by the White Lies to perform at one of their parties!

The raucous pace of their songs created an infectious buzz amongst chest-puffed audiences. Yet they have reformed this youthful exuberance and have fine-tuned a more stripped back pace that smacks of maturity, with a hint of boisterous excitement simmering under the surface.

This is characterised by the lead single, Stonefaced, from their debut album due out in the autumn. A rich melody that leads throughout is charged with an explosiveness that skulks in the background.

This new direction has earned them considerably more label interest and 2009 finished strongly with interviews on Radio 1’s newsbeat

TAZER

Some years ago, (although no one is quite sure when), in the misty heartlands of the English nation, a band, nay, a sound was born. They are four in number and melodic in the execution of their music. We can now give names to these four, they are, Glenn, Luke, Marc and Joe. Glenn is the voice of the group, a voice that has graced the halls and streets of many nations and other times. This is complimented by the majestic power driven guitar soundscape of the one they call Marc and carried forth by the subliminally ostentatious rhythm section of Joe’s Bass licks and Luke’s drumbeats. This group came from beyond the pale armed with a repertoire of toe-tapping, fist punching, lighter waving, rock anthems and now they have broken through to our side of the bubble and are here to stay. The origin of the group’s name is inspired by the shocking incident that welcomed airplay of their debut single offering, Skinny Dipping. Avid avant garde music lovers at an exuberant underground student party played this tune so loud they soon found themselves surrounded by the fascist boys in blue. The kids refused to turn it down and the pigs responded by using their 40,000 volt Tazer guns with extreme prejudice. In honour of those brave souls and also because they thought it sounded good the group then gave themselves a name, Tazer!
