Dark punk, geek rage, post punk. We’re called lots of things these days, Its quiet/loud dynamic is just the thing to shake you out of your torpor. It sounds like a missive from a deserted island where they’ve sealed themselves off from the rest of the world with nothing but well worn copies of the collected works of Liars, The Pixies and the early albums of Idlewild to keep them company. Disregarding the current vogue for lo-fi surf pop, the Cornish quartet prefer to make your eardrums earn their money with the kind of racket that used to make NME journalists go into hyperbolic shock. It’s like a double espresso for the ears blowing away any cobwebs better than a trip to a wind farm in a hurricane.

“Dead Wolf Club is energetic yet comforting, distorted yet melodic, aggressive yet sensitive, raw yet polished. It’s a unique monster of an album.”  • THE 405

“Ahhhh that lovely feeling of instantly falling for a band. It doesn’t happen all that often but it feels so bloody good when it does. One listen to Dead Wolf Club’s mix of rock riffs, heady melodies and incessant energy was more than enough to convince me of their worth.”  • GOLD FLAKE PAINT

“Crammed into a speedy half an hour there is an urgency about Dead Wolf Club almost as if the world is about to end any minute. This coupled with some awesome guitar playing makes you just want to move in an agitated manner. Far from haunting you with memories of your adolescent loneliness, Dead Wolf Club will make you nostalgic for those angry, yet innocent, youthful days. 5/5 Pigeons”  • PIGEON NOTE

THE AMBER HERD

The Amber Herd photo

The Amber Herd are a five piece post punk/ alt rock band from Nottingham.

The band have self released two singles and one E.P. to date and have spent 2011/12 playing some very prestigious festival gigs at Bearded Theory, High Voltage, Glastonwick and Headstock as well as headline shows in London and Nottingham and Leicester. During this time the band have also played with the likes of Delays, Sound of Guns, CUD, Ultrasound, Milagres and That Petrol Emotion at Nottingham venues such as The Rescue Rooms and the Bodega, along with a few headline shows at The Good Ship in London.

Local media has said that The Amber Herd are “a cracking band…one to be watching”, “Nottingham’s best kept secret?” and “Mind blowing!” Over the last year they have received airplay and played live sessions on BBC Radio Nottingham (the Beat with Dean Jackson, and John Holmes’ show) University of Nottingham Radio, Fly FM and Sherwood Radio. “Thursday” has just achieved the Number One position in Sherwood Radio’s Festive Thirty for 2010. The band have also been featured in The Nottingham Evening Post, Derbyshire times, Nottingham Live and Live@ magazines and appeared on podcasts for Leftlion and Soundshire as well as many online radio shows. We also had a segment of ‘Magnolia’ played on the Channel 4 primetime show ‘Hollyoaks’ earlier in 2012.

The end of 2012 has seen us take a step back from a busy live schedule to write a full length Album due to be recorded in the spring of 2013 which we are very excited about, meanwhile here is a short piece about our previous release.

This Town EP.
The 21 minute EP features five original songs recorded with up and coming producer/engineer Phil Booth in Nottingham during spring 2011. These range from their shortest, poppiest moments, in songs such as “Days like These” and “Bonfires”, to their longest song yet recorded the sprawling seven and a half minute wig-out that is “Magnolia”. The latter features guest backing vocals from one of Nottingham’s finest singers, Shona Munro (Fat Digester, Betty Munro & the Blue Majestix) and also additional vocals from Rachel Edge and Theremin from Radio Sherwood’s Andy Haines.

The band’s line-up is: Neil Beards – Vocals/ guitar. Mark Lasbury – Drums. Paul Wentworth – Guitar/ vocals. Rob Fitzmaurice – Bass. Ollie Powditch – Keyboards

The Media have taken on board this latest release with some great reviews, local, national and international of which here are a few snippets:

“All in all the EP is a real masterpiece and if you want to make yourself comfortable on a summer evening, with a warm summer breeze and simply listening to music, The Amber Herd will be one of the best recommendations.” • Lilly – Static Magazine Germany

“IT’S an irony of the internet age that when the potential for choice is nearly limitless, everything suddenly seems to sound the same. But that’s not a problem facing Chesterfield/Notts band. The Amber Herd prove here they won’t be led by the nose by the diktats of fickle fashion. They are an intriguing band with an eye for drama and melody. And that’s no bull’” • Philfy Phil – The Derbyshire times

LUXURY STRANGER

Luxury Stranger B&W photo

Drawing on the darkness of post-punk and cold wave, the theatre of 70s glam (Bowie/Eno/Reed/Pop), the commerciality of 80s new wave and the rough edge power of 90s ‘grunge’, Luxury Stranger are a cross-genre kind of band – creating music that can be appreciated by most music lovers and not easily put into a box. LS are considered ‘Jekyl and Hyde’ – a methodical architect in the studio and a passionate powerful monster on the stage.

Mainly influenced by the sounds of post-punk/cold wave and indie from 1978 – 1984 and the 90s American ‘Grunge’ and punk scenes.

Imagine: David Bowie and Iggy Pop’s Berlin years mixed with a dash of Bolan glam, the disparate sound of Joy Division and early Cure, the energy and darkness of 90s ‘Grunge’ with the melodies of Martin L Gore and power of The Chameleons and Echo & the Bunnymen – This is Luxury Stranger.
