LoneLady a.k.a Julie Campbell can now reveal the release of her new single: ”GROOVE IT OUT”

Groove It Out is a 6-minute dance workout that recalls ESG and ‘Voodoo Ray’, its economical funk guitar lines and colourful passages unfurling over simple drum machine beats, charting moments of joy and uncertainty; ‘In an empty room I groove it out’.

Following a period of contributing guitar and vocal to other albums, Campbell returned to solo work, became a recluse, and recorded and produced the material for her new album in her home studio, mostly using a Tascam 8-track cassette recorder. Finding that these recordings had an intimacy and integrity of their own, the album was essentially finished, needing only finishing touches.

This was found at a remote analogue studio in an industrial region in the States, where Campbell got to play with an Aladdin’s cave of vintage analogue treasures.

Campbell: “I travelled there in October ’13 and again during the ‘Polar Vortex’ freeze that descended on the States in January ’14. Both trips were real adventures, injecting the final phase of album making with a renewed energy.”

“I found it a totally sympathetic environment to be in and found a shared aesthetic in Bill (Skibbe, co-producer); I knew he’d sensitively aid the finishing of the songs and not impose on or disrupt their character. We’d often dig out Youtube clips for the other to enjoy; these exchanges included ‘Sharevari’ at The Scene, George Clinton’s ‘Loopzilla’, John Carpenter’s ‘Assault On Precinct 13’ and many more.”

The single was released on 12” and digitally on November 17th.

LoneLady’s new album is to be released in early 2015, details to follow.
