Born and raised in London, Thomas Speight grew up with a rich cocktail of influences including The Beatles, The Shins & Joni Mitchell. Growing up with a Simon & Garfunkel loving mother, Speight remembers being driven about with his mum playing their ‘Best Of’ cassettes.

Aged just 12, Speight started writing, later lending his talents to a string of indie bands before officially emerging himself as a solo artist a few years back.

Since, the sheer determination and talents of Speight have set him in good stead for his eponymous debut album, which he’s busy concluding. Thomas Speight made his most up-to-date introduction via. the digital release of his EP ‘Willow Tree’ through independent label Young & Lost Club, (home of Noah and The Whale and Johnny Flynn.

‘Willow Tree’, produced by Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin (Mt Desolation and Keane) has received widespread acclaim from a number of sources for it’s insightful lyrics and intricate arrangements, including a peer of Speight’s, Ryan Adams who acknowledged the sound as “so beautiful”.

This, in addition to support from Sir Paul McCartney, suggests that Thomas J Speight is certainly one to watch. Gaining a loyal fan base and having landed support slots for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg, Mumford & Sons and Fionn Regan, Thomas continues to perform extensively throughout the UK and US.

Gaining early radio support and picking up plays at the likes of Channel 4, Speight has worked with The Staves, The Cardinals, Keane & Travis. Talking of his upcoming release, Speight explains it is a natural progression from the previous EPs as he continues to hone his melodic stylings and laid back acoustic indie folk.

plus support: PORT ISLA

On a good day, Port Isla are a four piece band formed in Norwich.

In 2011, Will Bloomfield met fellow UEA students Stanley Spilman and Henry Kilmister. They then spent the next couple of months of writing and playing acoustic gigs around Norfolk. Willem Olenski soon joined to complete the current line up. They have since played at The Great Escape in Brighton, Latitude in Suffolk, and Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. This year they made it to the final eight of the Glastonbury Emerging Talent competition and won a slot at the festival itself. They have released their first two singles, Sinking Ship and Adventurers, for free. They are both available to download from their Soundcloud page.

On a bad day, they cover 80’s power ballads, complain about beard growth and argue about the correct usage of knots.
