Enigmatic Merseyside four piece Wave Machines are set to make their return in 2013 with second album Pollen. Having built a cult following with their intricate and instinctive art-pop, Wave Machines have taken their vast sonic palette and made it broader, denser and more focused.

Since their inception in 2006, Wave Machines have honed their craft through extensive touring and recording. Setting their stall with two well received singles on renowned tastemaker Chess Club Records, 2009 saw the release of Wave Machines debut album ‘Wave If You’re Really There’, a diverse and charming album, consolidating all that had preceded it.

More touring and festival dates followed; including shows alongside Roxy Music & The Flaming Lips, festival appearances at Glastonbury and Bestival as well playing around the world with dates in the U.S., Spain, Portugal, France, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Ireland and Dubai.

The band garnered great support from press and radio off the back of their debut. NME proclaimed the band to be ‘up there with 2009’s finest – 8/10’ and Clash called the album ‘A really great record brimming with good ideas, melodies and experimentation 8/10’. This was buoyed by plays by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Nick Grimshaw, Huw Stephens, Rob Da Bank, and Annie Mac as well as recording sessions for Radio 1, 6 Music and XFM.

Pollen is the band’s return to fray; this long awaited follow-up reveals a more nuanced vision for the lush disco-hooks of their debut. Simultaneously intimate and epic, haunting and direct, Pollen marks a surprising return for Wave Machines. Though Pollen may be darker, Wave Machines’ future is as bright as any.

plus guests: PORTASOUND

“Portasound’s maverick mixture of math rock rhythms and bleeding synths takes no prisoners, with no quarter yielded”  •  Clash

“we bloody fucking love the 80’s synth noise of Portasound”  Front      “like a scene from Inception”  • AltSounds

“cross between robot pop and alien electro… perfect score”  • 405

“Londoners Portasound are a unique beast indeed. Their hyperactive, maximal sound is aggressive yet fun and technically exceptional, erratic percussion and jagged guitars colliding headlong with frankly bonkers synths resulting in a sound which grabs you by the bollocks and forces you to dance”  • Crack

“Portasound provide a wonderful mix of Metronomy-style synthpop and the kind of analogue filth that Fuck Buttons make in their nightmares.”  • (9/10)  Virtual Festival

“Best new thing I heard all weekend.”  • The Sprout

Since signing to Pink Mist label Blood and Biscuits in Jan 2012 Portasound have had a big year.
Releasing their debut EP in May to fantastic reviews they soon started receiving comparisons to Errors, Fuck Buttons and label mates Gallops, fusing soaring melodies, driving rhythms and wonky riffs they’ve created a genre bending soundtrack of instrumental electronica.

Portasound have already played shows with the likes of Metronomy, The XX, Friendly Fires and Three Trapped Tigers and have spent the year touring their EP to enthralled crowds getting column inches on all the major music blogs and a full two page spread in Front Magazine.

With the success of their debut and live shows Portasound are putting the finishing touches on their second EP due for release in Jan/Feb 2013. Mainstream radio play, press and a new video promo for the next single launch Nov 27th and the band expect to expand on their success in 2013.
