TOM VEK
Today we are pleased to announced DIY recording artist Tom Vek will be touring his new album ‘Luck’ around the UK this October. Vek will play 10 dates around the UK, culminating at London’s Koko on October 15th. Tickets for the tour will go on-sale on Friday 16th May at 9am available from http://www.gigsandtours.com/tour/tom-vek/
The first single from the much anticipated new album is titled ‘Sherman (Animals In The Jungle)’ is a searing comment on our state of moral ambivalence inspired by Tom Wolfe’s novel, The Bonfire of the Vanities, which delivers a bold chord sequence and a bass-line of such grandiose proportions as to rival Kanye. Spliced with synth motifs reminiscent of the opening to Kiss by Prince, this is angry funk, for the lost generation compelled to head bang in unison to its intoxicating repetition. On May 12th, Vek will be releasing a very limited 7″ white label featuring both ‘Sherman (Animals in the Jungle)’ and ‘Broke’ – also taken from the new album ‘Luck’. The vinyl will be housed in a unique risograph printed sleeve, hand numbered (1 – 100) and designed by Tom Vek himself. It will be available to buy in independent select UK record shops.
Tour dates:
OCTOBER 3 – Falmouth (Pavilions) 4 – Oxford (The Art Bar) 6 – Portsmouth (Wedgewood Rooms) 7 – Brighton (The Haunt) 8 – Manchester (Gorilla) 9 – Glasgow (King Tuts) 11 – Leeds (Cockpit) 12 – Liverpool (Kazimier) 14 – Nottingham (Bodega) 15 – London (Koko)
Londoner Tom Vek studied design at Central Saint Martins before his self-produced music was picked up by an independent label and subsequently licensed through a major, 2005’s “We Have Sound” and 2011’s “Leisure Seizure” were examples of how ambitious a lo-fi rock hybrid could sound. Luck is being released with highly respected London independent Moshi Moshi, Tom and the label go back to the early days of his career, and there’s good vibes there.
